Grant Background: The Increasing Resilience to Climate Change Community Grants program supports the objectives of NSW Climate Change Policy Framework by enabling communities and individuals to be better prepared and be more resilient to climate change impacts.

The Community Grants program has been established to support projects that help communities to take action and manage climate change impacts by being able to better plan, prepare for, and respond to heatwaves, storms, floods, drought and bushfires, to increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Purves Environmental Fund

Funder:  Purves Environmental Fund

Grant Background: The Purves Environmental Fund grants funds to enable and empower others working towards environmental sustainability and preservation of biodiversity.

Their current focus areas are:

  • Plastic pollution
  • Biodiversity species loss
  • Water resource management of the Murray Darling Basin
  • Broad-scale land clearing
  • Renewable energy and climate change advocacy

The charitable purposes of the Purves Environmental Fund are as follows:

(a) To protect and enhance the natural environment;

(b) To enhance the protection of Australia’s unique biodiversity for the benefit of future generations through the protection of native species and the ecological processes that support them, particularly in the primary production landscape;

(c) To provide information and education about the natural environment and to improve the Australian community’s understanding of the urgent need for greater sustainability; and,

(d) To support scientific research and field projects that are aimed at supporting catalytic work to find solutions for important environmental issues that are not currently supported by environmental groups or government.

Australia-India Strategic Research Fund

Funder:  Federal – Industry

Grant Background: Australia-India Collaborative Research Projects are funded by the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF).

The objectives of the AISRF are to:

  • increase the uptake of leading science and technology by supporting collaboration between Australian and Indian researchers in strategically focused, leading-edge scientific research and technology projects
  • strengthen strategic alliances between Australian and Indian researchers
  • facilitate Australia and India’s access to the global science and technology system.

The priority areas for Round 12 of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund Collaborative Research Projects are:

Indo-Australian Science & Technology Fund (administered by DST in India)

  • Climate Change mitigation and adaptation
  • Food processing, storage and distribution
  • Mining safety and efficiency 

Indo-Australian Biotechnology Fund (administered by DBT in India)

  • Cancer therapeutics/ theranostics
  • Genomics and precision medicine
  • Pest-resistant crops

Increasing Resilience to Climate Change

Funder:  NSW – Department of Environment & Heritage and Department of Local Government

Grant Background: This partnership program between LGNSW and the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) provides funding to address identified climate change risks and vulnerabilities facing NSW councils.

The Increasing Resilience to Climate Change program has been established to encourage:

  • Implementation of actions to address identified climate risks
  • Regional consideration of climate change impacts in decision making
  • Implementation of climate change adaptation actions beyond business as usual projects and programs
  • Enhanced adaptive capacity.

The Climate Change Fund is providing $1,100,000 of funding in Round 1 for projects delivered within 2 years.

  • Individual projects: Grants between $30 000 to $120 000 are available to individual councils.
  • Regional projects: Grant between $50 000 to $300 000 are available for regional projects to coordinate adaptation projects across a number of councils.
