Bushfire Recovery for Wildlife and Habitat Community Grants Program

Grant Background: The Bushfire Recovery for Wildlife and Habitat Community Grants Program aims to encourage recovery efforts in areas affected by the 2019-20 bushfires by:

  • supporting recovery of native flora and fauna
  • involving local communities, community groups and Traditional Owners, in delivering bushfire recovery activities for native flora and fauna.

The program is confined to bushfire-affected areas within the eastern and southern part of Australia affected by the 2019-20 bushfires, or adjacent to an affected area.

Small Environmental Grant Scheme

Grant Background: The Scheme provides support for people undertaking projects that will make a positive difference to the natural living environment, in land, sea or air, rural or urban.

They are looking for projects around:

  • flora and fauna conservation(Australia-wide)
  • threatened mammal conservation (Australia-wide)

These projects should involve any of the following:

  • monitoring, recording and sharing data
  • delivering community education
  • providing community capacity building (e.g. training)
  • research and science

What they fund:

  • Projects that directly make positive changes to biodiversity conservation in Australia.
  • Projects should have some short term outputs, but also have long term objectives and values.
  • Projects that show the following: enthusiasm, collaboration, passion, innovation
  • Projects that use citizen science
  • Projects that are about community education relating to conservation

Purves Environmental Fund

Grant Background: The Purves Environmental Fund grants funds to enable and empower others working towards environmental sustainability and preservation of biodiversity.

Their current focus areas are:

  • Plastic pollution
  • Biodiversity species loss
  • Water resource management of the Murray Darling Basin
  • Broad-scale land clearing
  • Renewable energy and climate change advocacy

The charitable purposes of the Purves Environmental Fund are as follows:

(a) To protect and enhance the natural environment;

(b) To enhance the protection of Australia’s unique biodiversity for the benefit of future generations through the protection of native species and the ecological processes that support them, particularly in the primary production landscape;

(c) To provide information and education about the natural environment and to improve the Australian community’s understanding of the urgent need for greater sustainability; and,

(d) To support scientific research and field projects that are aimed at supporting catalytic work to find solutions for important environmental issues that are not currently supported by environmental groups or government.

Communities Environment Programme

Grant Background: The Communities Environment Program will provide $22.65 million in funding to support small scale, community-led environment projects that address local environmental priorities in each of the 151 federal electorates across Australia.

The program aims to support the environmental priorities of local community and environment groups in their regions and neighbourhoods, to recover and strengthen the environment and to build and strengthen local communities.

Conservation Grants

Grant Background: The Biodiversity Conservation Trust’s (BCT) Conservation Partners Grants aim to assist BCT agreement holders to actively protect or improve the ecological value of their properties.

The following activities are supported:

  • Fencing—installation, repairs or replacement of wildlife-friendly conservation-related fencing (to control stock access)
  • Weed control
  • Introduced pest animal control
  • Supplementary planting, revegetation or vegetation enhancement
  • Habitat restoration—such as nest boxes, addition of ground layer including logs, rocks
  • Other maintenance—such as tracks or erosion control needed to maintain conservation value
