Leg Up Museums Grant

Funder:  Museums & Galleries of NSW

Grant Background: Leg Up Grants are quick response skill development grants for workers in volunteer managed museums throughout NSW. These grants fund various skill development projects including hosting or attending workshops, conferences or seminars in NSW, in addition to networking activities.

Previous Leg Up Grants have funded museum volunteers to attend conferences and workshops, and to gain training in areas of museum practice including paper conservation, oral history, disaster preparedness and significance assessment.

Community Heritage Grants

Funder:  Federal – Department of Communication & Arts

Grant Background: The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program provides grants to community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, genealogical and historical societies, multicultural and Indigenous groups. The grants are provided to assist with the preservation of locally owned, but nationally significant collections of materials that are publicly accessible including artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and audio visual material.

The types of projects supported include

  • significance assessments of collections
  • preservation needs assessments of collections
  • conservation activities and collection management, and
  • training workshops.

Community Heritage Grant

Funder:  NSW – Department of Environment & Heritage

Grant Background: The community heritage grants category focuses on enabling local councils and communities to identify, conserve, interpret and promote heritage. It includes similar activities to the Community Heritage Projects, Local Government Heritage Advisors, Local Heritage Places and Local Government Planning Studies streams that were run in the 2017-19 funding rounds.

Some activities in this grant stream are only available to local government organisations while others are open to a broader group of applicants. Funding is available towards:

Community and local government

  • Community Engagement Projects for celebration and promotion of heritage
  • Interpretation Projects for an item on the State Heritage Register

Local government only

  • Local Government Heritage Studies
  • Small Heritage Grants (devolved) Programs to conserve local heritage
  • Local Heritage Advisor Services

Caring for NSW State Heritage

Funder:  NSW – Department of Environment & Heritage

Grant Background: The State Heritage Register (SHR) is a list of places and objects (collectively referred to as items) which represent heritage of particular importance to the people of New South Wales.

The Caring for State Heritage Grants category provides funding to support the understanding, conservation, protection and activation of items listed on the State Heritage Register.
