Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Grants

Funder:  Murray-Darling Basin Fund

Grant Background: The Australian Government is inviting applications via an open competitive process to deliver projects under the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Grants Program in eligible Murray-Darling Basin communities.

The Program will assist eligible communities to undertake economic development projects to respond to the impact of water recovery activities under the Basin Plan. The outputs of the program are the number of jobs created as a result of the economic development projects and the number of projects supporting activities that continue after projects end.

The economic development projects would assist with:

  • increasing the capacity of communities to diversify and strengthen local economies
  • enhancing the resilience of communities to manage current and future economic challenges and changes
  • increasing opportunities for employment within communities.

RASF Community Kitchen Grant

Funder:  Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation

Grant Background:  Does your community kitchen need a revamp?

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation (RASF) is giving rural and regional NSW community organisations the chance to receive kitchen cabinetry and appliances worth more than $20,000, including appliances and white goods such as a gas cooktop, oven, sink, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer.

The RAS Foundation invites rural and regional community organisations to apply and tell them how a new kitchen would benefit many in their local community.

Applications will be judged on merit by a panel of selectors, including representatives from the RASF Board. The application judged to be the most considered, meritorious and achievable will be awarded the kitchen. The selected projects must be implemented through the local community agency or group nominated in the application.

The successful applicant is announced in approximately April each year.

Resilient Communities Small Grants

Funder:  NSW – Central West Local Land Services

Grant Background: Central West Local Land Services believe supporting the communities in which they live will empower resilience and strength, particularly during difficult times.  Understanding that sometimes a small grant can have a significant impact, they are offering grants to community-focused groups with a passion for what is important to them and their wider community.

Funding is made available through the Catchment Action NSW program and must align with the following project priorities:

  • Improving soil health
  • Supporting and protecting native vegetation and terrestrial habitat
  • Protecting and rehabilitating aquatic ecosystems
  • Protecting or preserving Cultural Heritage values
  • Maintaining or improving native plant and/or animal species populations
  • Prevent spread and impact of pest animals collaboratively

Based on your own priorities, this may include (but not be limited to):

  • Engagement or capacity building workshops or training
  • Forming or adding value to a pest animal group
  • Purchases to increase capacity of your team: GPS, Field cameras, mapping software etc
  • Cultural training, protecting various cultural values, educational site visits, community awareness workshops
  • Increasing habitat or planting exercises

The RASF invites ideas that deliver strong community benefits and result in enhanced economic and social outcomes for your community.

Projects that involve collaboration between people in your town and deliver sustained and broad community benefits will be highly regarded. Applicants will be passionate about rural and regional NSW, and have a good understanding of any issues affecting their community.

Tackling Tough Times Together

Funder:  Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal

Grant Background: The Tackling Tough Times Together grant program helps communities access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of the drought.

This program is designed to provide flexible funding to support community-based activities that both help to relieve current stressors and symptoms, and most importantly, build capacity and resilience for the future. Funds could also support activities that engage your local community in being proactive, exploring options and creating something that will stand the test of tough times.

Objectives of the programme include to:

  • Reduce social isolation by facilitating strong social cohesion and connection;
  • Support and engage the community in leadership development and skills training;
  • Support opportunities for social and educational participation and address disadvantage caused by the drought, for children and young people;
  • Reduce volunteer fatigue and build the capacity, capability and sustainability of local not-for-profit organisations to provide support to their communities, particularly where they are playing an increased role during the drought; and
  • Support local economic recovery or renewal through projects that stimulate economic activity and cash-flow within communities.

Rural Bank Scholarship

Funder:  Rural Bank

Grant Background: In 2019, Rural Bank will be awarding up to 25 new scholarships to first-time undergraduate university students enrolled in studies that will enable them to contribute to the Australian agricultural industry.

The expanded program includes 10 additional scholarships to be awarded to students from communities affected by drought, alongside up to 15 scholarships on offer for regional and rural students across Australia.

This funding aims to support study-related expenses covering such things as accommodation costs, course costs, study materials and equipment, textbooks or tutoring.
