Strengthening Rural Communities – Small & Vital

Funder:  Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR)

Grant Background: The Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program aims to give the thousands of small rural, regional and remote communities across Australia an opportunity to access funding to support broad community needs.

Projects funded must align with one or more of the following charitable outcomes:

  • Bringing people and community organisations together to foster stronger, more resilient communities;
  • Fostering and celebrating a sense of identity, diversity and cultural connection within the community;
  • Improving community health and social wellbeing;
  • Enabling people to develop skills, knowledge and confidence to lead and contribute to the prosperity and renewal of their community;
  • Building a sustainable volunteer base and/or supporting the wellbeing of volunteers;
  • Celebrating and resourcing volunteer-led efforts;
  • Increasing access and inclusion for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, including remote communities;
  • Enhancing places where communities gather;
  • Promoting connection to place and enabling initiatives that champion a community’s social, cultural or economic aspirations;
  • Increasing capacity and capability of local community organisations to support preparedness and recovery from natural disasters;
  • Enabling locally-led responses within rural, regional and remote communities endeavouring to reduce the impacts of the changing climate within their community.

Supplementary Volunteer Grants

Funder:  The Centre for Volunteering

Grant Background: The Supplementary Grants program aims to support the efforts of New South Wales’ volunteers as well as to encourage and increase participation in volunteering by on-funding grants to provide small amounts of money that organisations and community groups can use to help their volunteers.

The supplementary volunteer grants are designed to support volunteer involving organisations with a high proportion (over 40%) of volunteers to:

  • Help support the efforts of Australia’s volunteers;
  • Help support the inclusion of vulnerable people through volunteering;
  • Encourage, support and increase participation in volunteering;
  • Post COVID-19 re-engagement activities for volunteers; and
  • Adapting practices to support volunteers’ safety in relation to COVID-19.

The intended outcome of the grants is to strengthen community functioning by increasing participation in volunteering.

Museums & Galleries Small Grants

Funder:  Museums & Galleries of NSW

Grant Background: Small Grants aim to meet the short-term, collection-based requirements of community museums. There are no set categories for funding, and applications for a broad range of projects will be considered.

Previous Small Grants have funded the purchase of computer cataloguing software, exhibition mannequins and display cases, oral history recording equipment and archival storage items.

Note: Small Grants in 2020 will be prioritising projects related to COVID-19 and bushfire recovery

News Corp Bushfire Fund Grants

Funder:  Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR)

Grant Background: Through the provision of grants, the aim of the News Corp Bushfire Fund Grant is to address a range of needs, including but not limited to:

  • Community infrastructure and equipment that strengthens volunteer community groups and their activities;
  • Emergency equipment and facilities;
  • Mental health and wellbeing; and
  • Rebuilding communities – from infrastructure repairs or upgrades, to governance, capacity building or operational support.
