RAF Cultural Tourism Accelerator

Funder: Federal – Regional Arts

Grant Background: The Cultural Tourism Accelerator Program is a $5 million targeted measure announced by the Australian Government as part of the Regional Arts Tourism package, which will enable arts organisations to promote and develop cultural events for tourists across regional Australia. The program will increase tourism visitation in regional, rural and remote communities across Australia by providing financial support for arts and cultural activity. The program recognises that the cultural and creative industries play a critical role in contributing to the creativity, diversity and prosperity of Australia’s regional and rural economy.

The Cultural Tourism Accelerator Program aims to:

  • Support place-based programs to increase visitation
  • Build consumer confidence and activate engagement
  • Drive engagement across communities and between regions
  • Support sector-led responses.

Indigenous Contemporary Music

Grant Background: The Indigenous Contemporary Music program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and bands. It provides opportunities and skills to develop ongoing income and employment pathways in the music industry.

The program will fund Indigenous-led organisations who provide professional industry-based opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and bands.

Annual Arts Organisation Funding

Individual Arts Project Funding

Funder:  Create NSW

Grant Background: Individual Arts Project funding supports innovation, vibrancy and creativity within the NSW arts and cultural sector. It aims to deliver a dynamic and diverse range of arts and cultural experiences to communities across NSW, contribute to the development of a vibrant and accessible arts and cultural sector, and support the employment and development of professional NSW-based artists and arts/cultural workers.

Funding is available for a wide range of arts and cultural activity, including:

  • the creative development and/or public presentation of work(s), for example, literary works, music, dance or theatre pieces
  • commissioning professional artists – for example, a writer, composer, choreographer or visual artist – to develop a work for an event
  • partnerships (including those with the non-arts sector) to develop arts and culture in a specific region, Priority Area or artform/discipline
  • community collaborations involving professional artists, to develop skills, public performances, exhibitions or participatory events
  • research and/or development of creative/cultural projects that develop new skills and/or engage with new ways of working including new approaches to museum practice, including curated shows and engagement strategies
  • arts and cultural activities aimed at engaging young people, particularly students attending geographically and/or socio-economically disadvantaged schools
  • extending an artist’s practice, audiences or markets, including skills exchanges for workers developing and deepening audience engagement with arts and culture.

NSW Performing Arts Relaunch Package

Grant Background: The aim of NSW Performing Arts Relaunch package is to provide financial support to relaunch the performing arts sector in line with the NSW Government roadmap to recovery. This package is an extension of the original Performing Arts COVID Support Package that was designed to support the sector while in lockdown.

This new package is designed to assist the sector to relaunch by providing certainty and confidence as audiences return to theatres and other performance venues. The funding amounts provided under this package are designed to stimulate the broader NSW economy by ensuring that a rich and diverse.

Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund

Funder:  Federal – Infrastructure

Grant Background: With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting all of Australia’s arts and cultural sector, the operations and financial stability of arts organisations have been significantly affected.

The RISE Fund is delivered to support artists and organisations affected by COVID-19 through the delivery and presentation of activities across all art forms to audiences across Australia. Projects that target audiences in outer metropolitan, regional and remote areas will also be taken into account, as well as projects that involve tours and use local regional production, services and support acts.

Activities will contribute to the organisation’s financial viability, job creation, and support for Australian artists or performers and their work. They will provide experiences to audiences, and/or be of a nature that is likely to be popular with Australian audiences.

Live Music Australia

Grant Background: The Live Music Australia program will provide support to the live music sector, with a focus on small to medium venues that support high quality original Australian live music that is professionally staged. It aims to revive business ventures in local suburbs, towns and regions across the country, building capacity for a sustainable live music scene with strong community roots, in all parts of Australia. The first year of funding is aimed at preparing live music venues to become operational following the impacts of COVID-19 on the industry.

The program will:

  • support the development, growth and innovation of Australian contemporary live music by increasing performance opportunities for original contemporary music by Australian artists
  • support a sustainable venue-based live music industry by building professional capacity within venues
  • support partnerships, collaboration and networks across the Australian live music industry.

Culture, Heritage and Arts Regional Tourism (CHART) Program

Funder:  Australian Museums & Galleries Association

Grant Background: The Culture, Heritage and Arts Regional Tourism (CHART) program is a $3 million Australian Government program that aims to support community cultural, heritage and arts organisations in regional Australia as they recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

The CHART program promotes participation in, and access to, Australia’s arts and culture through developing and supporting cultural expression and sharing stories of community and historical significance. Community-run arts and cultural organisations – including community museums, galleries, and historical societies – will benefit from CHART program funding. The program will support these organisations to continue to offer appealing cultural tourism experiences to visitors, which in turn will enhance local expenditure.

The intended outcomes of CHART program grants are to:

  • Contribute to the reactivation and recovery of organisations from COVID-19, and to their ongoing sustainability, by providing grants for eligible activities
  • Promote regional arts and cultural tourism by supporting the development of appealing cultural tourism experiences, including through the preservation of Australia’s cultural heritage and the telling of the stories of local communities and
  • Support domestic intra- and inter-state tourism and local economies more broadly.
