Funder: NSW – Rural Assistance Authority
Grant Background: The Commonwealth Government has announced new grants to support apple growers directly impacted by the 2019/2020 bushfires as well as wine grape producers impacted by smoke taint as a result of these bushfires.
While not directly impacted by flames, a number of wine grape producers were significantly impacted by smoke taint. This has led to a loss of approximately 4%, or 60,000 tonnes, of the national harvest for the 2020 vintage.
The 2019/2020 bushfires also caused significant localised damage to some apple growers in NSW. Grants for eligible businesses are available to assist with re-establishing damaged or destroyed apple orchards.
$ Available: Up to $10 000.00 for grape growers and up to $120 000.00 for apple growers.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible, Wine grape producers must:
- hold an ABN that was active at the time of the eligible disaster
- be located in NSW
- be located outside of the Local Government Areas eligible for the Emergency Bushfire Response Primary Industries Grant or the Small Business Bushfire Support Grant, as listed in the program guidelines
- demonstrate and provide evidence of smoke taint damage to the 2020 vintage of wine grapes as a direct result of the 2019/2020 bushfires
- show they have experienced a decline in revenue or grapes harvested of 40 per cent or more in a relevant three month period since 31 August 2019
- match the grant dollar-for-dollar with a private financial co-contribution.
In order to be eligible, apple growers must:
- be a primary producer
- hold an ABN that was active at the time of the eligible disaster
- be located within a NSW local government area declared as a disaster area for the 2019/2020 bushfires
- have had apple orchards that suffered direct damage by bushfires since 31 August 2019
- have been in active production immediately prior to the fires
