Strengthening Rural Communities

Funder:  Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR)

Grant Background: The Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program aims to give the thousands of small rural, regional and remote communities across Australia an opportunity to access funding to support broad community needs.

Given the events of summer 2019/20, it has also been expanded to offer funding to support recovery in bushfire-affected communities.

Grants are available for a broad range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and assessed quarterly.

This round, grants up to $10,000 are available through the Small & Vital Stream, and grants up to $25,000 are available through the Bushfire Recovery Stream.

Tackling Tough Times Together

Funder:  Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal

Grant Background: The Tackling Tough Times Together grant program helps communities access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of the drought.

Grants are available for a broad range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and assessed quarterly.

Applications received must address at least one of the following Program Objectives:

  1. Reduce social isolation by facilitating strong social cohesion and connection;
  2. Support and engage the community in leadership development and skills training;
  3. Support opportunities for social and educational participation and address disadvantage caused by the drought, for children and young people;
  4. Reduce volunteer fatigue and build the capacity, capability and sustainability of local not-for-profit organisations to provide support to their communities, particularly where they are playing an increased role during the drought; and
  5. Support local economic recovery or renewal through projects that stimulate economic activity and cash-flow within communities.

Grant Background: The Future Drought Fund’s Networks to Build Drought Resilience program provides agriculture-dependent communities across remote, rural, and regional Australia with the opportunity to access funds for a broad range of initiatives that benefit local communities to strengthen their resourcefulness, adaptability, and capacity to thrive.

The program is designed to build strong social connectedness, strengthen social capital, and support transformative activities that enable regional communities to be more prepared for, and resilient to, the impacts of drought.

Building Better Regions Fund – Infrastructure Projects Stream – Round 5

Funder:  Federal – Infrastructure

Grant Background: The $1.04 billion Building Better Regions Fund supports the Australian Government’s commitment to:

  • drive economic growth
  • build stronger regional communities into the future.

For Round Five, there is a total of $200 million available, with $100 million dedicated to tourism-related infrastructure projects.

The Infrastructure Projects Stream supports projects that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas. The projects can be either construction of new infrastructure or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure.

Grant Background: The Tackling Tough Times Together (TTTT) program gives drought-affected communities across remote, rural and regional Australia the opportunity to access funds that benefit their immediate and long-term needs. Grants are available for grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly benefit local communities, with the objective of the program being to help drought-affected communities.

Applications received must address at least one of the following Program Objectives:

  1. Reduce social isolationby facilitating strong social cohesion and connection;
  2. Support and engage the community in leadership development and skills training;
  3. Support opportunities for social and educational participation and address disadvantagecaused by the drought, for children and young people;
