Murray–Darling Basin Indigenous River Rangers Grant

Funder:  National Indigenous Australians Agency

Grant Background: Murray–Darling Basin Indigenous River Rangers grant opportunity will provide $3.071 million to Indigenous organisations across the breadth of the Murray–Darling Basin (the Basin) to establish up to four new Indigenous ranger groups to work on waterway health projects that support environmental and cultural outcomes across the Basin.

Through the Program, the Australian Government recognises Indigenous Australians’ connection to country and the diversity of environmental and cultural practices across the Basin. The Program is expected to enable Indigenous river rangers to use their knowledge and connection to country to contribute to restoring and managing waterway health to support environmental and cultural outcomes in the Basin.

Indigenous Contemporary Music Programme

Funder:  Federal – Infrastructure

Grant Background: The Indigenous Contemporary Music program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and bands. It provides opportunities and skills to develop ongoing income and employment pathways in the music industry.

The program will fund Indigenous-led organisations who provide professional industry-based opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and bands.

NAIDOC Local Grants

Funder:  Federal – National Indigenous Australians Agency

Grant Background: The 2021 NAIDOC Local Grants funding round aims to support activities being held during NAIDOC Week 2021 (4-11 July) that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, achievements and continuing contributions to our country and society. Activities should align with the National NAIDOC Theme for 2021, ‘Heal Country’.

This grant round provides funding to organisations to contribute to the costs of local and regional NAIDOC activities across Australia.

Aboriginal Languages Community Investment Programme

Funder:  NSW – Aboriginal Affairs

Grant Background: The Aboriginal Languages Community Investments Program 2021 aims to support the reawakening, growth, nurturing, promotion and awareness raising of Aboriginal languages in communities across NSW.

The Aboriginal Languages Trust is investing $800,000 in NSW Aboriginal local community groups and organisations who have a community focus on delivering Aboriginal language activities, building workforce capability and promoting the appreciation and use of Aboriginal Languages.

Indigenous Languages and Arts Programme

Funder:  Federal – Infrastructure

Grant Background: The overarching outcome of the Indigenous Languages and Arts (ILA) Program is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to express, preserve and maintain their cultures through Indigenous languages and arts activities.

Grant funding allocated through the ILA Program supports three key outcomes:

  • the empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to preserve and teach their culture through languages and arts
  • a strong sense of cultural identity and wellbeing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, which contributes to sustainable and strong communities
  • celebration and increased recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and arts in the wider Australian community.

Grant Background: Creative Koori Projects funding aims to build support for a strong, resilient and exciting Aboriginal arts and cultural sector for NSW. This will be done through embracing the principles of Aboriginal self-determination and putting Aboriginal artists, organisations and communities at the centre of funded cultural and creative activity.
